James Brown, the Godfather of Soul, died on Christmas Day 2006. At 1:45 a.m. on Christmas morning Brown died from congestive heart failure resulting from complications from pneumonia. His final words were "I’m going away tonight". Brown was nothing short of a legend in his time, and his death on Christmas day at the age of 73 sparked a national period of mourning. We remember Brown’s life today as well as the lives of other notable people who died on Christmas Day including Dean Martin (1995), Charlie Chaplin (1977), George Michaels (2016), Eartha Kit (2008), and W.C. Fields (1946).
