Which French leader ushered in the French Fifth Republic?
Charles de Gaulle
De Gaulle became provisional president of France after World War 2 but soon resigned. When the constitution of the Fourth Republic proved inadequate in addressing France's multitude of foreign and domestic ills, de Gaulle returned in 1958 establishing the Fifth Republic with much stronger executive authority. Clemenceau was the French President who represented France at the Versailles conference after World War I. Pompidou and Giscard were both successors of de Gaulle.
